- Week 11 Preparing date: 11/11/2023 Teaching date: 13/11/2023 PERIOD 31: UNIT 4: MY NEIGHBOURHOOD LESSON 4: COMMUNICATION I. AIMS 1. Knowledge Students will be able to: - Ask for and giving directions in a neighbourhood; - Listen for sequence and for details; - Create an audio guide for Ho Chi Minh City. 1.1. Vocabulary: Lexical items related to city fact file of some cities. 1.2. Grammar: Comparative, giving instructions. 2. Competences: Developing their language skills, as well as communication, summarizing; giving directions, 3. Quality: The love their neigbourhood. II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Text books, notebooks, posters, . 2. Teacher: Text books, pictures, planning, - Grade 6 textbook, video, handouts III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Class organization/ Warm up - Checking Ss’ attendance. - Teacher divides the class into 2 groups and let them play a game: Guessing game - Teacher show a video and ask Ss to work in 2 groups, write down all the ways of asking and giving directions - Lead in new lesson 2. New lesson a. Activity 1: Listen and read the conversation (part 1- page 43) * Objective: To practice asking for and giving directions. * Content: practice the phrases and structures of asking for and giving directions. * Output: Some pairs to practise in front of the class. * Process: - Teacher plays the tape twice and asks students to work in pairs, take turns to practice the conversations. - Students work in pairs to practice the conversations. - Teacher calls some pairs to practise in front of the class. - Teacher gives feedback and corrections (if necessary). - Teacher gives some ways of asking for and giving directions: Asking for directions: 1. - Giving directions: 1. Go along this street: đi dọc theo đường này 2. On your left/ right: bên tay trái/phải 3. Go out of : đi ra khỏi 4. Take the first/second turning on your left/right: rẽ phải/trái ở lối rẽ đầu tiên/thứ hai 5. Go straight: đi thẳng 6. Cross the road: đi sang đường b. Activity 2: Make similar conversations to ask for and give directions to places near your school. (part 2-page 43) * Objective: To apply the knowledge about asking and giving directions in a neighbourhood * Content: Make similar conversations to ask for and give directions to places near your school. * Output: Some pairs to practice in front of the class. * Process: - Teacher shows a map of places in the neiboughhood. - Teacher asks students to work in pairs to make similar conversations, using the structures and phrases for asking for and giving directions. Example: A: Where is the nearest café? B: Go out of our school, turn right at the second turning, it’s on your left. - Encouraging them to practice asking for and giving directions to some places near their school. - Move around to observe and provide help.
- - Invite some pairs to practice in front of the class. - Commenting on their performance. c. Activity 3: Listening to an audio guide to Hoi An. Listen and fill in the blanks. (part 3- page 43) *Objective: To help students get used to some famous landmarks in big cities. * Content: Listening to an audio guide to Hoi An. Listen and fill in the blanks * Output: Write the correct name under the pictures of the pictures. (individual work) * Process: - Teacher shows 3 pictures of 3 places mentioned in the recording. - The whole calss guess the names of places - Teacher corrects if necessary and elicits from students any information they know about the pictures. - Teacher plays the tape ttwice for students to listen and fill in the blanks. - Students listen then check the answer with their partners - Teacher invites 2 students to give answers on the board - Check as the whole class Answer key: 1. Straight 2. Second 3. Right 4. Next to d. Activity 4: Look at the map below and create an audio guide for District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. (part 4- page 43) * Objective: To help students practice creating an audio guide for Ho Chi Minh City. * Content: Look at the map below and create an audio guide for District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. * Output: Ss give directions to places on the map (group work) * Process: - Ask students to read the instructions carefully - Remind them of the expressions they can use to give directions and “first, after that, and finally” to link the direction - Ss work in groups of four, Example: Let’s start our tour in Ho Chi Minh City. We are in Hai Ba Trung street now. First, go to . Next, . Finally, e. Activity 5. Presentation (part 5- page 43) - Teacher asks Ss to go to the board to present - Students listen and give comment - Teacher gives commnent on their presentation. 3. Consolidation - Teacher asks students to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson. - Asking for and giving directions
