- Week 23 Preparing date: 20/2/2023 Teaching date: 21/2/2023 PERIOD 65: UNIT 8: SPORTS AND GAMES Lesson 4: COMMUNICATION I. AIMS 1. Knowledge: Students will be able to express and respond to congratulations, know and understand more about sports & games then ask and ask and answer questions about sports & games. 1.1. Vocabulary: Review 1.2. Grammar: The past simple, imperatives. 2. Competences: Group work, independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence. 3. Quality: Be more aware of spending time playing sports and games and choose the best sport and game for yourself. II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Students’ books, workbooks 2. Teachers: Textbook, lesson plan, tape script, projector, pictures, word card, workbook III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Warm up: Brainstorming – Sports & games badminton Sports & games - Organize a competition between two teams. - Ss in two teams take turns to write words on the board in 3 minutes. - The team gets more correct answers will be the winners. Suggested words: Badminton, basketball, football, swimming, cycling, boating, chess 2. New lesson: a. Activity 1: Listen and read a short conversation below, pay attention to the highlighted parts. * Aim: To introduce the way of expressing and responding to congratulations * Content: Listen; read in pairs; repeat the highlighted parts. * Output: Students know how to express and respond to congratulations. * Process: - Have Ss listen and read the short conversation. - Tell them to pay attention to highlighted parts. - Ask Ss to repeat these parts several times. Audio script: Duong: Last week I played table tennis with Duy, and I won for the first time.
- Mai: Congratulations! Duong: Thank you, Mai. Mai: So youre our class champion now. b. Activity 2: Make a similar dialogue * Aim: To help Ss to practice expressing and responding to congratulation. * Content: Make a similar conversation and practice in pairs. * Output: Students know how to use the knowledge they have learned. * Process:- Allow Ss to work in pairs and make a similar conversation. - Remind them to use highlighted sentences in activity 1. - Encourage them to devise different context to use the language. Sample conversation: A: I’ve won a prize in the school’s singing contest. B: Congratulations! A: Thank you, B. c. Activity 3: Do the quiz * Aim: To have Ss revise/ learn some knowledge of sports / games through a quiz. * Content: Join a competition to learn some knowledge of sports/ games in teams. * Output: Ss know some more knowledge of sports/ games. * Process:- Organize a competion between two teams. - Show questions one by one. The team rings the bell first will answer the question. If the answer is correct, they get one point. If the answer is incorrect, the left team has the right to answer. The team gets more points will be the winners. Key:There are usually 22 players (11 on each side). It normally lasts 90 minutes (divided into two halves). They take place every four years. A marathon is 42.195 kilometres long (26 miles and 385 yards). They took place in Olympia (in Ancient Greece) (in 776 BC). d. Activity 4: Interview a partner, report to the class. * Aim: To help Ss ask and answer questions about themselves concerning the field of sports / games. * Content: Work in groups; interview each other; report to the class. * Output: Ss know how to ask and answer questions about sports/ games. * Process: - Ss work in groups of 4-5. One student to be the interviewer and the others the interviewees. - Give Ss plenty of time to ask and answer questions. Encourage them to talk and raise as many questions as possible. - Go round the class and give support if necessary. - After a fixed amount of time, choose the interviewer of some groups to present to the class. T and other Ss listen and make comments. 3. Consolidation Have Ss say what they’ve leanrt in the lesson. 4. Homework
- - Make a conversation using the way of expressing and responding to congratulations. - Practice asking and answering about sports/ games. - Prepare next lesson: Unit 8 – Lesson 5: Skills 1.
