  1. Week 23 Preparing date: 23/2/2023 Teaching date: 25/2/2023 PERIOD 67: UNIT 8: SPORTS AND GAMES LESSON 6: SKILLS 2 I. AIMS 1. Knowledge : - Students will be able to listen for general and specific information about sports and games. - Write a paragraph about a sport/ game they do in their spare time. 1.1. Vocabulary: Related to the topic “Sports and games ” 1.2. Grammar: The past simple, imperatives 2. Competences - Autonomy and self study, communication and collaboration, problem solving and creativity . - Listening for general and specific information about favourite sports and games . They can write a paragraph about a sport/ game they do in their spare time - To improve group work, independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence. 3. Quality - Ss will be more aware of spending time playing sports and games and choose the best sport and game for yourself. - To develop and improve for students the following qualities: patriotism, kindness, hard work, honesty, responsibility. II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Students’ books, workbooks, notebooks, pens 2. Teachers: Textbook, lesson planning, computer accessed to the Internet, projector, pictures, word cards, tapesript, CD radio III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Class organization/ Warm up ( Kim games) - Ss look at these pictures in one minute and try to remember the name of sports they know Write the names of some sports you know. - Ss go on the board and write the name of sports they know ( as much as possible) - T checks and corrects and introduce the lesson 2. New lesson 2.1.Listening a. Activity 1: Listen to the passages. Who are they about?
  2. * Aim: To activate Ss' knowledge of the topic of the listening text; to develop the skill of listening for general information. * Content : To listen and say who are mentioned in the passages. * Output: To give the correct names of two people who are mention in the passage * Process. - Play the recording once only. - Ss listen and say who are mentioned in the passages. - Share with their parners. - Confirm the correct answer as a class. Key: The listening passages are about Hai and Alice. b. Activity 2: Listen to the passages again.Then tick (✓) T (True) or F (False) * Aim: To help Ss develop their listening skill for specific information (scanning). * Content: Listen, find some key words and tick true or false for each sentence. * Output: Understand the passages and do exercise True /False correctly and give the reason for their answers. * Process. - Ask Ss to read the sentences carefully and find the key words. 1. The passages are about two sports men. 2. Hai goes cycling at the weekend. 3. Hai's favourite sport is karate. 4. Alice doesn't like doing sport very much. 5. Alice plays computer games every day. - Play the recording again. - T tells Ss that while they listen, they have to tick T or F for each sentence. - Call on some Ss to read the answers and explain their choice. - Confirm the correct answers as a class. Activity 3: Listen again and fill each blank with a word to complete each sentence. * Aim: To help Ss develop their listening skill for specific information (scanning), and identify the exact words to fill the blanks. * Content: Listen and fill each blank with a word to complete each sentence. * Output: Ss can complete each sentence correctly. Check and correct their mistakes * Process - Ask Ss to read the sentences and find the key words. - Play the recording a third time (or more if needed). - Tell Ss that they have to identify the exact words in the listening passages to fill the blanks, and that the words must be spelled correctly. - Ss share their answers in pairs. - Listen to the recording a final time to check the answers as a class. 1. Use the following questions as cues * Aim: To help Ss practise asking and answering questions about their favourite sports and games, to help Ss brainstorm ideas for their writing. * Content: Ask and answer questions about their favourite sports and games correctly. * Output: Ss can ask, answer and write down the most important information in their notebook. * Process - Have Ss work in pairs and talk about the sport/ game they like. - They can use the cues given or their own ideas. - Ask them to note down the important and interesting things in their notebooks. - Go around and give help if necessary. - Call on some Ss to read their notes in front of the class. - T and other Ss listen and make comments. - What is the name of the sport/ game? - How many players are there? - How often do you play it? - What equipment does it need? - Why do you like it? e. Activity 5: Write a paragraph of 40 - 50 words about the sport/ game you talked about in 4. You can also refer to the listening passages * Aim: To help Ss practise writing a paragraph about the sport/ game they like. * Content: Write a paragraph of 40 - 50 words about the sport/ game they like * Output: Ss can finish writing a short paragraph about the sport/ game they talk about in 4. * Process - Ask Ss to write a paragraph about the sport/ game they talk about in 4 . - Allow Ss to refer to the listening passages and other sections for useful language for writing. - T notes interesting expressions and language on the board. - Ss write a draft first, based on the ideas they have talked about in 4 . - Ss actually write a paragraph of 40 - 50 words (or more if they can), covering as many ideas as possible. ( Pay special attention to punctuation, structural elements, linking words, etc.) - T collects some Ss’ writings and mark them, then give comments to the class. Use some useful languages to write about football. Football/ favourite sport. A team/ game Two teams with 22 players Two halves/ last 90 minutes A fifteen minute-break
  4. Teams/ plays against each other/ get scores Team/ score more points/ winner People/ enjoy. It/ the King sport. Suggestion: Football is my favourite sport. It is a team game. There are 2 teams with twenty two football players in a football match (eleven players on each side ). A Football match last ninety minutes. It is divided into Two halves –the first half and the second half . There is a fifteen minute break between two halves. The teams play against each other. They compete against each other in order to get the best scores. The team who scores more points is winner. Most of people enjoy football. It is regarded as the King sport. 3. Consolidation Have Ss summarise what they have learnt in the lesson with the two skills. 4. Homework - Talk about the sport/ game they like. - Do exercise in workbook. - Rewrite a short passage about the sport/ game they like. - Prepare Unit 8 - Lesson 7: Looking back & project.
